Rajat Patidar RCB New Captain for IPL 2025: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have named Rajat Patidar as their new captain for IPL 2025. The team announced this through social media on Thursday. Faf du Plessis, who was the captain last season, was not retained by the team, after which the captaincy chair was vacant. Faf du Plessis was bought by Delhi Capitals in the IPL 2025 mega auction.
Appointment of Rajat Patidar
Rajat Patidar, who has been performing brilliantly for RCB for the last few seasons, has been made the new captain of the team. RCB shared a video on its social media handle and wrote, “RCB’s next captain is… Rajat Patidar! His calm and fearless nature, ability to perform under pressure and competitive spirit will take the team to new heights.”
Virat Kohli was also in the Race for Captaincy
Earlier, the name of former RCB captain and star batsman Virat Kohli was also being discussed. Kohli captained RCB from 2013 to 2021 and under his leadership the team reached the IPL final in 2016. However, Kohli refused to take the responsibility of captaincy this time, after which Rajat Patidar was given this role.
Rajat Patidar’s IPL Career
Rajat Patidar has been a part of RCB since 2021. He played only 4 matches in his first season, but in 2022 he scored 333 runs in 8 matches, including a century. His performance was also excellent in the 2024 season, where he scored 395 runs in 15 matches and played an important role in helping the team win many matches with a strike rate of 177.13. In his IPL career, he has 799 runs in 27 matches, including one century and 7 half-centuries.

Captaincy Experience
Rajat Patidar has captaincy experience in domestic cricket. He has captained Madhya Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Vijay Hazare Trophy. In the 2022-23 season, he led Madhya Pradesh to the final of the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy, although the team lost to Mumbai. Patidar was the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament.
Faf Du Plessis Leaves RCB
Faf du Plessis, who captained RCB for the last three seasons, was not retained by the team. Faf led the team from 2022 to 2024, but even during his tenure RCB could not get the title. Faf will play for Delhi Capitals in the 2025 season.
